Economics, B.A.
The Economics major combines economic theory with an analytical skillset, giving students a competitive degree in the job market. Our students go on to a variety of positions in private, public and non-profit organizations. Our curriculum is designed around three tracks based on faculty expertise and popular career paths, but Economics majors have a great deal of freedom to choose elective courses that meet individual goals.
The major requires 36 credits. Half of these are core courses (Principles and Intermediate Theory, as well as Statistics and a writing course), while the rest are electives. Some courses have MATH 165 (Finite Mathematics) as a prerequisite.

Our small class size and opportunities for student-faculty research are key benefits of the Economics program, and NEIU’s affordability helps make the degree an excellent choice. We build critical thinking and oral and written communication skills, and help students choose electives outside Economics that complement the major and help them meet their career goals.
