Exploring the Future Through Code and Collaboration
NEIU Eagle HackFest is the College of Business and Technology’s annual student hackathon hosted by the Department of Computer Science. Open to students of all backgrounds and skill levels, this event is designed to inspire collaboration, innovation, and creative problem-solving. Participants work in teams to tackle real-world challenges across specialized tracks such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and General Computer Science. Each track features a faculty-designed prompt, giving students the opportunity to brainstorm, prototype, and pitch their ideas in a high-energy, supportive environment.
With guidance from industry mentors and access to a wide range of resources, students engage in hands-on learning while building practical skills and expanding their professional networks. Eagle HackFest is more than a competition: it’s a celebration of creativity and community within the rapidly evolving tech landscape. Whether you're an experienced coder or just starting your journey, this event offers a welcoming space to explore new tools, work on meaningful projects, and connect with peers and professionals who share a passion for technology.

NEIU Eagle HackFest 2024
Friday, April 12 2024 | El Centro
Keynote Speaker: Ellie Bahrmasel | CEO, Further Faster Ventures
The theme of this year’s hackathon is “Better Communities.” Students will select from a series of project prompts focused on real-world problems, and will spend the day designing, prototyping and proposing technology solutions to improve their local communities.
For example:
- How might we build volunteer systems to help deliver groceries to the elderly?
- How might we support working parents who want to maintain their work-life balance when switching contexts?
- How might we help immigrants who want to regularly connect with family in their home countries?
- How might we help students build and maintain healthy routines when they start college?
- How might we help first-generation college applicants navigate the college search process?
